About This Course
Welcome to Facilitating TechSpace STEAM online! This is an introductory level short course for educators workin onlineg in youth settings. The course is delivered through a four week period by the course tutors Miriam Harte and Leigha Dugdale. Each week, you will be introduced to the content by Miriam and Leigha.
Learn what STEAM is and how it can benefit young people’s personal and social development
Describe and discuss the fundamentals of tinkering -
Understand the basics of electricity and how to build circuits work -
Learn how to solder and the safe usage of the equipment
- Learn how to run STEAM activities with young people:
An introduction to Scratch
Gain an understanding of progressional pathway to set up a TechSpace and deepen your online facilitation skills.
The course is assessment based. Assessments:
multiple choice quizzes at the end of each module,
field work to try out activities with young people,
participation in weekly Hangout video calls with your course tutors Miriam and Leigha,
a show and tell activity conducted via a Hangout video call to share outcomes of field work with course tutor and peers, a journal to reflect on learnings from the course.
Participants will receive a TechSpace certificate on completion of the course.
Hi I'm Miriam I am the TechSpace STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Education Officer, I develop, design, research and support the growth of exciting and creative ways to facilitate activities and projects with young people. I also have background in Biological and Biomedical Sciences as well as Immunology.
My name is Leigha and I am based in Wexford, I am the National Digital Education Officer for TechSpace. Before working with TechSpace most of my experience was in Art and Youth Work, now thanks to TechSpace I have gained more experience in the world of tech including STEAM. I am very excited to be tutoring this online STEAM course so we can learn together. Let's get creating!
